While a water-based pillow may sound like a whacky invention straight out of the seventies, you may be surprised to find just how comfortable they can be. For one, a water-based pillow can be heated, giving you soothing support that relaxes tense muscles in your neck and shoulders while you sleep. Even if you choose not to heat your pillow, there are other benefits.

But wait, wouldn't a water-based pillow slosh around violently, rendering you unable to sleep? While a completely water filled pillow would indeed be a sloshing mess; water based pillows feature a small water layer underneath or inside of a foam, polyester, or even natural fiber encasement. The water thus provides increased responsiveness to position changes while asleep without adversely affecting the pillow's stability.

In clinical sleep studies, water-based pillows consistently outperform control groups for quality of sleep and alleviation of morning aches and pains. If you suffer from a low quality of sleep and wake up feeling tired or worn out, a water-based pillow may be just the thing to restore the rest to your nights' sleep.
